About Us
After a year of studying beekeeping in British Columbia I started my tiny business back in Manitoba, where I grew up. I started out with 5 nucs (the small hives pictured here) in my cousins field.
But let's back up a bit...the dream to work with bees began several years earlier while studying at the University of Winnipeg. At that time Colony Collapse Disorder had been circulating in the news and so I decided to do a project on honeybees. The research piqued my interest and I quickly decided that I wanted to do my part in "Saving the bees". It took a few years for the time to be right but things started to fall into place for me to move to BC to take a beekeeping program offered there.
This year was filled with meeting other beekeepers, newbees and wannabees. I learned all about honeybee biology and anatomy as well as how to help hives thrive and techniques for how to make use of the many products they produce. I got tons of hands-on experience both in class and as part of a 4-month practicum working for a beekeeper in Saskatchewan.
I would have loved few things more than to stay in beautiful BC but having more connections in Manitoba, it seemed more practical to begin my business there.
